英語の as of は「…の時点で」や「…から」の意味で使われる複合前置詞です。

「…から」という開始時点を示す意味では、特にイギリス英語で as from も使います。ただし、ある基準日時での状態を表す as of まで、すべて置き換えられるわけではありません。
as ofの使い方
1. …の時点で
- As of now, we have raised $5,000 for the charity event.
(現時点で, 私たちはチャリティーイベントに5,000ドル集めています) - The total number of members in our club as of today is 150.
(今日時点での, 私たちのクラブの合計会員数は150人です)
as of は「…の時点で」の意味で使われます。
as of yet
as of yet は「今までのところ」の意味で使われるイディオムです。
- As of yet, we have not received a response from the client.
(今までのところ, 顧客からの返答を受け取っていません)
- As of right now, we are fully booked for the next two months.
(今のところ, 向こう2カ月は予約でいっぱいです) - As of 2010, there were 30,000 students enrolled in the university.
(2010年時点では、その大学には3万人の学生が在籍していました) - The new policy is not yet in effect as of this moment.
(新方針は現時点ではまだ有効ではない) - The construction work is ahead of schedule as of this writing.
(この記事を書いている時点では, 工事は予定より早く進んでいる) - The warranty is valid for one year as of the date of purchase.

2. <日時> から
- As of today, the museum will be open to the public from 10 AM to 5 PM.
(本日から、美術館は午前10時から午後5時まで一般公開されます) - He will be taking over as team leader as of December 1st.
(彼は12月1日からチームリーダーを引き継ぐでしょう)
as of は「<日時> から」の意味でも使用されます。
「さかのぼって」の意味
as of は「<日時を> さかのぼって」の意味で使われることがあります。
- The pay increase took effect retroactively as of January 1, 2020.
(その昇給は2020年1月1日にさかのぼって適用されました)
- As of midnight, the online voting for the contest will close.
(夜12時から, コンテストのオンライン投票は締切になります) - The exhibition will be open to the public as of Friday.
(金曜日から展示は公に公開されます)
as of は形式ばった言い方に聞こえるため、より単純な前置詞を使用すべきと主張する人もいます。例えば、
- I am officially on a diet as of today.
(今日から正式にダイエットを始めます)
のように言っても良いですが、日常的な場面であれば、
- I am officially on a diet from today.
(今日から正式にダイエットを始めます)
と言ったほうが、より自然に聞こえるでしょう。
