in case ofの使い方
1. [文頭] …の場合には
- In case of fire, please use the nearest exit.
(火災の場合には, 最寄りの出口を使ってください)
in case of は主として文頭にて、「…の場合には」の意味で使われます。とりわけ、火災や事故などに対して使用されます。
in case of fire と in case of a fire のどちらが良いか
in case of fire（= fire に不定冠詞aをつけない）と in case of a fire（= fire に不定冠詞aをつける）はいずれも使用可能です。ただし、注意書きなどでは、通例、a はつけずに使われます。
筆者がインターネット上での使用例を調べたところ、in case of fire は1,117件に対して、in case of a fire は548件と、a をつけずに使う用法が、約2倍の頻度で使われているようです。
注: Swan は、In case of fire, break glass.（火災の際は窓を割ってください）を、if節で書き換える場合、If there is a fire… のように、不定冠詞をつける形で例文を提示しています。

in case of は文末で「…に備えて」の意味で使われることがあります。
- Keep a flashlight and batteries in your emergency kit in case of emergency power outages.
(非常時の停電に備えて, 懐中電灯と電池を非常持ち出し袋に入れておいてください) - We have a support team on standby in case of trouble with our software.
(ソフトウェアに問題がある場合に備えて, サポートチームが待機しています) - Make sure to know the location of the emergency exits in case of fire.
