enough の使い方一覧表
enough は「最低限必要な数・量」の中核的ニュアンスがあり、主として「十分な（に）」の意味で使われます。形容詞用法、副詞用法、代名詞用法があり、様々な構文で用いられます。
上記の表は、本記事で紹介する enough の用法を一覧にしたものです。以下、それぞれの使い方を詳しく説明しましょう。
enough（形容詞用法）の使い方
十分な, 必要なだけの
- Make sure we have enough chairs.
(十分な椅子があることを確かめてください) - We have enough time.
(私たちには十分な時間があります)
enough は「十分な」や「必要なだけの」の意味で使われます。
例文（上）は「enough+可算名詞（複数形）」、例文（下）は「enough+不可算名詞」で使われている例です。可算名詞の場合、常に、複数形で用いられます。
enough は「最低限、必要なだけ十分な数量がある」の意味であり、「量が多い」のニュアンスはありません。
「not enough + 複数名詞（不可算名詞）」の形で使われることがあります。
- Not enough people volunteered for the event.
(イベントのボランティアに参加する人が十分ではありませんでした) - Not enough attention was given to employee training.
(従業員教育に十分な注意が払われませんでした)
「enough A」は there構文の中でも使われます。
- There wasn’t enough food at the event.
(その催しに十分な食べ物がありませんでした) - Will there be enough water for all the hikers?
(すべてのハイキングする人たちに十分な水はありますか)
「名詞+enough」（= enough の前に名詞を置くこと）は、不可ではないものの、古風な表現です。
- There is food enough.
(十分な食べ物があります)
ただし、time enough のような一部の表現は、現代でも使用されています。
- There’s time enough to make changes.
(変更するのに十分な時間があります)
time, room, money, courage, experience, sense, strength などの一部の表現の前では、定冠詞the が enough と同様の意味で使われることがあります。
- Sorry, I don’t have the time to help you right now.
(申し訳ありません, お手伝いするのに十分な時間が今はありません)
さらに、the が省略されて、名詞単独で「（十分な）◯◯」の意味で用いられることもあります。
- There isn’t room in the fridge for all these leftovers.
(冷蔵庫にはこれだけの残り物を入れる十分な空間がありません)
これまで見てきたように、形容詞用法の enough は、通例、名詞の前に用いられます。
一方、数量語を伴う場合、「S be enough.」の形で使うことができます。
- One day isn’t enough.
(1日では十分ではありません) - This amount of food isn’t enough for everyone.
(この量の食べ物は皆にとって十分ではありません)
“It be enough (for A) to do” の構文で使われることもあります。
- It is enough for him to just be present at the meeting.
(彼は会議に出席するだけで十分です) - It’s enough for the plants to be watered once a week.

- Enough drinking is essential for maintaining good health.

（うんざりするほど）十分な
- We’ve had enough problems with the neighbors’ noise.
(隣人の騒音にうんざりするほどの問題を抱えています)
enough は「（うんざりするほど）十分な」の意味で使われることもあります。
- We’ve had enough trouble with the car already.
(その車について既に, うんざりするほどの問題があります) - Enough talk about problems, let’s discuss solutions.
(問題については十分話しました, 解決策を議論しましょう)
enough（副詞用法）の使い方
十分に
- The soup isn’t warm enough.
(スープが十分に温まっていません) - I’ll need to leave early enough.
(十分早く出発する必要があります)
A enough は「…に対して（するに）十分に, 必要なだけ」の意味で使われます。
この用法の enough は for や to do を従えず、単独で使われます。
英会話では Good enough.（それでいい）のように、感嘆詞的に用いられることがあります。
- A: “Do you think this gift is wrapped nicely?”
(贈り物はうまく包装されていると思いますか) - B: “Good enough.”
(それでいいですよ)
- I couldn’t find a big enough jacket.
(十分に大きいジャケットを見つけられませんでした)
…に対して十分
- The kitchen is big enough for us to cook together.
(台所は一緒に料理するのに十分な大きさです) - The map was clearly enough for us to find our way to the museum.
(地図は美術館への道を探すのに十分わかりやすかった)
“A enough for O to do” は「…に対して（…するに）十分」の意味で使われます。
この用法は、enough と to do（…するに）が相関的に用いられます。
Would you be kind enough to do…?（…していただけませんか）の形で、丁寧な依頼をあらわすことができます。
- Would you be kind enough to pick up some milk on your way home?
(帰りに牛乳を買ってきていただけませんか)
「十分に～なので …できる」の意味で、<結果> をあらわすことがあります。
- She was kind enough for me to borrow her car.
(彼女は親切にも車を貸してくれました)
比較級の修飾では、enough を形容詞の前に置くことができます。
- After taking medication, she felt enough better to return to work.
(薬を飲んだ後, 彼女は仕事に復帰できるほど良くなりました)
enough を文頭に置くことで、倒置が起こることがあります。
- Slowly enough did he recover from his illness to return to work.

- The salad is good enough, but it could use a bit more dressing for extra flavor.

enough は「まずまず, まあまあ」の意味で使われることがあります。
- He is respectable enough, but his communication skills need improvement.
(彼は確かに立派ですが, コミュニケーション能力に改善が必要です) - She may not have achieved all her dreams, but she is happy enough with her current life.

- Oddly enough, the missing book was found under the sofa.

enough は文修飾副詞とともに用いることで、「…なことに」の意味をあらわします。
この意味の enough に「十分な」の意味はありません。
sure enough は文頭や文中で用いられることで、「案の定」の意味で使用されます。
- I had a feeling I left my keys at the office, and sure enough, they were on my desk.
(私は事務所に鍵を置き忘れた気がしましたが, 案の定, 鍵は机の上にありました)

必要な数[量]
- This room is enough for us.
(私たちにはこの部屋で十分です) - We are not doing enough.
(私たちは十分なことをやっていません) - Not enough is known about it.
(それについて十分に知られていません)
enough は「必要な数（量）」の意味で使われます。
- Not enough has been done in this research.
(この研究は十分にされていません) - I’ve prepared sandwiches and snacks for our picnic. Do you think there’s enough for today?
(ピクニックのためにサンドイッチとスナックを用意しました. 今日は足りるでしょうか)
十分な数[量]のA
- They don’t have enough of the right foods.
(彼らは適切な食べ物を十分, とっていません) - We don’t have enough of the information.
(私たちは十分な量の情報を持っていない)
“enough of A” は「十分な数[量]のA」の意味で使われます。Aには通例、可算名詞（複数形）、あるいは不可算名詞が用いられます。
“enough of a(n) 単数名詞” は「十分な程度のA」の意味で用いられます。
- The storm wasn’t enough of a threat to cancel the event.
(嵐はイベントを中止するほどの脅威ではなかった)
Collins Cobuild English Usage によれば、”Enough of A” が主語の場合、動詞の数はAの名詞の数に一致します。
- Eventually enough of these shapes were collected.

- I have had enough of this never-ending traffic.
(終わりの見えない渋滞はもうたくさんだ) - Enough of this waiting.

enough は「（うんざりするほど）十分な数 [量]」の意味で使われることもあります。
Enough said. は「（わかったから）もうそれ以上は言うな」の意味で使われるイディオムです。
- “I don’t want to argue about it anymore. Enough said.“
(「これ以上, それについて議論したくありません。もうそれ以上は言わないでください」)
- The matter is clear, and enough has been said.
(問題は明確であり, もう十分語られてきました) - Well, enough about politics; have you seen any good movies lately?

enough を含んだイディオム
nowhere near enough
- The current budget allocation is nowhere near enough to complete the project.
(現在の予算配分では, プロジェクトを完遂するには到底足りません) - There’s nowhere near enough time to prepare for the exam properly.

nowhere near enough は「とても十分とはいえない」の意味で使われるイディオムです。
more than enough
- He has talked more than enough about his vacation.

more than enough は「多すぎるほど」や「十二分に」の意味で使われるイディオムです。
can’t get enough of O
- I can’t get enough of chocolate.
(チョコレートが好きでたまりません)
can’t get enough of O は「…が好きでたまらない」の意味で使われるイディオムです。
go far enough
- The explanation didn’t go far enough.
(説明は十分ではありませんでした) - Have our efforts gone far enough to address the issue?

go far enough は「十分満たしている」の意味で使われるイディオムです。
この表現は、通例、否定文あるいは疑問文で使われます。
