英語の appetite は「食欲」の意味で使われる名詞です。通例、不可算用法で使用しますが、have a large appetite（大いに食欲がある）のように、可算用法で用いることもあります。

1. 食欲
- Bad news made him lose his appetite.

appetite は「食欲」の意味で使われます。
例文（上）は動詞の目的語、例文（中）は前置詞の目的語として使われている例です。また、例文（下）のように、形容詞によって修飾されることもあります。
通例、不可算用法で使用します。ただし、3つ目の例文のように、修飾語を伴う場合など、可算用法（しばしば単数形）になることもあります。
A good appetite is the best sauce. は「食欲は最高のソースです（= 空腹にまずいものはなし）」の意味で使われることわざです。
