どこにも(どこへも) …ない
- I had nowhere to live, so I stayed with friends for a while.
(私はどこにも住むところがなかった, なのでしばらくの間友人の家に滞在した) - There is nowhere for us to park the car.
(車を駐車するところがどこにもなかった) - We went nowhere last night.
(私たちは昨夜, どこへも行かなかった)
nowhere は「どこにも（どこへも）…ない」の意味で使われます。
例文（上・中）は「どこにも…ない」、例文（下）は「どこへも…ない」の例です。
次の2人のやり取りのように、nowhere は日常的な英会話でも使われます。
- A: “Where’s the party tonight?”
(パーティーはどこでやりますか) - B: “Nowhere special, just at a friend’s place.”
(特にどこってことはないよ, 友人のところさ)
- This path leads nowhere.
(この道はどこにもつながっていない) - I can find it nowhere.

nowhere が文頭に置かれることで、主語と動詞の倒置が置きます。例文（上）はbe動詞、例文（中）は do、例文（下）は現在完了の have が用いられている例です、
注: “there is nowhere to do” のように、nowhere が名詞的に用いられることがあります。辞書によって「（代）名詞用法」と分類することもありますが、本記事では『オックスフォード現代英英辞典（第10版）』やCollins Cobuild Advanced Learner’s Dictionary (9th) などを参考に、いずれの用法も副詞として扱いました。

1. be nowhere to be seen
- The cat was nowhere to be seen.
(猫の姿はどこにもなかった) - My glasses are nowhere to be found.
(私の眼鏡はどこにもない) - The missing book is nowhere in sight in the library.
(行方不明の本は図書館のどこにもない)
nowhere to be seen は「<人･物などが> どこにも見当たらない」の意味で使われます。
例文（上）の nowhere to be seen のほか、例文（中） nowhere to be found、例文（下）nowhere in sight の形でも使われます。
2. from nowhere
- The storm appeared from nowhere.
(嵐がどこからともなく現れた) - The idea for the new product came from nowhere.
(新商品のアイディアがどこからともなくあらわれた)
from nowhere は「どこからともなく」の意味で使われます。
out of nowhere も同様に、「どこからともなく」の意味で使われます。
- She received an unexpected job offer out of nowhere.
(彼女は思いがけない仕事の申し出をどこからともなく受けた)
3. get nowhere / go nowhere / lead nowhere
- We’ve been trying to fix this old computer, but we’re getting nowhere with it.
(この古いコンピュータを直そうとしています, しかしうまくいきません) - The negotiations between the two countries seem to be going nowhere.
(2つの国の間の交渉はどこにも進んでいないようです) - His endless excuses leads nowhere in his career.
(彼の果てしない言い訳は, キャリアのどこにもつながらない)
get nowhere, go nowhere, lead nowhere は「うまくいかない」の意味で使われます。
go nowhere fast の表現でも使われます。
- The project is behind schedule, and at this rate, we’ll get nowhere fast.
(プロジェクトは予定より遅れています, このままではどうにもうまくいきません)
4. get O nowhere
- Complaining won’t get you anywhere.
(文句を言うことは何の役にもたちません) - Ignoring customer feedback gets a business nowhere fast.
(顧客からのフィードバックを無視すればビジネスが立ち行かなくなります)
get O nowhere は「O <人など> にとって役に立たない」の意味で使われます。
5. nowhere near O
- The factory is located nowhere near the city center.
(その工場は市街地からはるか遠くに位置しています) - Her cooking skills are nowhere near as good as her mother’s.
(彼女の料理の腕前は母親には到底及ばない)
nowhere near O は「O<場所>からはるか遠くに」や「O<程度･状況など>とはほど遠い」の意味で使われます。
6. in the middle of nowhere
- Our camping spot was in the middle of nowhere.
(私たちのキャンプ場は人里離れたところにあった)
in the middle of nowhere は「人里離れた所に（で）」の意味で使われます。
